ERMITAGE SAINT ANTOINE DE GALAMUS

Carved into the cliff, the hermitage hides a cave-chapel. The hermits, who came to settle in the natural caves of Galamus as early as the 7th century, placed the site under the protection of Saint Antoine le Grand, patriarch of the desert monks. Gradually, they added other buildings including the bell of the campanile. The last hermit left the place around 1930.
